Group Crit 1 & Workshop

Friday was our first group crit with all the faculty. We started at 8:30 and were finally done about 3 pm. It was an exhausting day both presenting the work and giving feedback.

I didn't present until after lunch. No big surprises from the faculty which was good. Each one seemed to like a different piece and had conflicting advice. No comments on the book in a week, everyone seemed to like the letterpress broadside (One person even said it gave her a similar feeling as seeing Arlo Guthrie?), and the 2d to 3d project came out fine. I had mixed feelings before the crit about the pieces that didn't do well.

The weekend was filled with a Nag Hamadi workshop with Julia Miller. She did a great job and we came out with two great models. I don't know if I'll do this again but it was worth doing. If you ever get a chance to take a class with Julia, be sure to do so.

Now on to the next projects.

Taxonomy project - 100 pieces 5x7, ten sets of ten, drawn, photographed, printed. Whatever categories we choose.

Letterpress Book - all letterpress, any subject, a single pamphlet.

Group Litho - we're learning plate litho so we have to draw an image to be exposed today, drawing, stencil, computer printout. We'll print them later in the week.

Offset Book - our final dummy due on Wednesday, then we start working on the prepress work.

At least Beth is working evenings this week so I can spend more time here.
